May 1st Fishing Report
May 1st Fishing Report
Overall the fishing has still been very good. For the rivers, smallmouth are around in good numbers and are still in the pre-spawn feeding mode. The fish are well spread throughout the river systems at this point and you can fish for them wherever you would like. The fish have still been keyed in on baitfish, craw, and goby patterns.
Lakeshore fishing has also been very good. Smallmouth are holding nearshore as they are also in pre-spawn mode on the lake. The fishing is similar to that in the rivers, and the smallmouth are still eating baitfish, craw, and goby patterns. With all the rain we are getting, the lakeshore is a great option to get some fishing in.
With today's widespread rain, it is likely that all of our Lake Erie tributaries will be blown out for the next few days. Temperatures are looking ideal to keep the pre-spawn bite going, though we will likely see a few start to get on beds. The forecast shows more rain coming which will likely lead to limited fishing windows on our tributaries. Depending on the winds, the lakeshore fishing can still be great!
Our Smallmouth Challenge is still rolling until May 31st! Photo for this report is one of the fish from the challenge. Don't miss your chance to win a new fly rod!
