May 13th Fishing Report: Finally Fishable Again!
May 13th Fishing Report: Finally Fishable Again!
The rivers are finally fishable again! With the heavy rain we have had over the past weeks, our fishable windows have been very limited. With that being said, our rivers have finally shaped back up and we are fishing again!More rain is expected Saturday, but the river conditions should remain solid until then.
Though there have not been many days to fish our rivers over the past weeks, the fishable windows have provided some good fishing opportunities. The smallmouth are spread throughout the river systems. The fish are definitely starting to spawn, making the best fishing the staging water near areas they like to spawn. The smallmouth have been willing to eat many different patterns, from craws to gobies to baitfish and even a little bit of topwater. Additionally, many anglers have been having luck targeting walleye in the lower rivers. The quantity of walleye being caught is unusual for our rivers so take advantage of it while you can!
The lakeshore fishing has been solid as well, the smallmouth and walleye are plentiful. There have been a couple of sheephead caught but the water still needs to warm up a bit more before the sheephead bite really ramps up.
Our Smallmouth Challenge is still rolling through the end of the month, so let's see some fish! The biggest smallmouth caught between now and May 31st is winning a new fly rod combo!
